Things to know
Reviews & acceptable use policy.
TICK is designed to help watch collectors, buyers and independent watch dealers connect with confidence.
Reviews and other user-generated content can play an important role in that experience. This policy explains what we expect from users and dealers when using TICK, submitting reviews and interacting through the platform.
This policy should be read alongside our Terms & Conditions, Privacy Policy and, where applicable, our Dealer Terms.
Our Policy
1. General Principles
When using TICK, we expect users and dealers to act honestly, lawfully and respectfully.
Content submitted to TICK should be:
- genuine;
- relevant;
- accurate to the best of your knowledge;
- based on real experiences where appropriate; and
- respectful of other users and businesses.
TICK must not be used to deliberately mislead, intimidate, harass or defraud another person or business.
2. Who Can Leave a Review?
TICK may allow registered users to leave reviews about dealers.
Reviews should relate to a genuine experience with the dealer being reviewed.
A completed watch purchase may not always be required to leave a review. For example, a genuine experience involving an enquiry, attempted purchase, valuation, part-exchange or other meaningful interaction with a dealer may be relevant.
You must not submit a review where you have had no genuine interaction or experience with the dealer.
3. What Makes a Genuine Review?
Reviews should represent your own honest opinion based on your personal experience.
You should distinguish clearly between facts and opinions.
Where you make factual claims about a dealer, you should have a reasonable basis for making them.
You should not exaggerate or deliberately omit important context with the intention of misleading other users.
4. Negative Reviews
TICK does not remove reviews simply because they are negative.
Users are entitled to describe genuine negative experiences provided their review complies with this policy.
A dealer disagreeing with a review is not, by itself, grounds for removal.
Where a review raises a legitimate dispute between a user and dealer, we may allow the review to remain while encouraging the parties to resolve the issue directly.
5. Prohibited Review Content
Reviews must not contain:
- knowingly false or misleading statements;
- fabricated experiences;
- defamatory or unlawful content;
- threats or intimidation;
- harassment or targeted abuse;
- discriminatory or hateful content;
- obscene or excessively offensive material;
- another person’s private or sensitive information;
- unrelated advertising or spam;
- malicious links or harmful content;
- content copied from another person without permission; or
- allegations presented as fact where the reviewer has no reasonable basis for making them.
Criticism is permitted. Abuse is not.
6. Fake and Manipulated Reviews
You must not attempt to manipulate TICK’s review system.
This includes:
- creating fake accounts to submit reviews;
- reviewing a dealer where no genuine experience occurred;
- submitting multiple reviews intended to artificially influence a rating;
- dealers reviewing themselves;
- employees or associates submitting misleading reviews without disclosing their connection;
- arranging for others to submit fabricated reviews;
- purchasing reviews;
- offering rewards specifically in exchange for misleading positive reviews; or
- deliberately coordinating reviews to artificially damage another dealer.
We may remove reviews and restrict accounts where we reasonably believe manipulation has occurred.
7. Incentivised Reviews
Dealers may encourage genuine customers to leave reviews.
However, any request for reviews should be fair and should not deliberately target only customers expected to leave positive feedback where doing so would create a misleading impression.
Dealers must not require a particular rating or sentiment in exchange for a reward.
Where an incentive has legitimately been provided for submitting a review, appropriate disclosure may be required.
8. Dealer Responses
Where functionality is available, dealers may be able to respond to reviews.
Dealer responses must comply with the same standards expected of other TICK content.
Responses should remain professional and must not:
- threaten or intimidate reviewers;
- reveal private customer information;
- contain abusive or discriminatory language;
- make knowingly false statements; or
- attempt to pressure a reviewer into removing legitimate criticism.
A constructive response to criticism will generally be more useful to other collectors than an argument.
9. Reporting a Review
Users and dealers may report content they reasonably believe breaches this policy.
When reporting a review, you should explain why you believe it breaches the policy and provide relevant information where appropriate.
Reporting a review does not guarantee its removal.
We will assess reports based on the content, available information and the requirements of this policy.
10. Review Moderation
TICK may investigate reviews where:
- a review has been reported;
- automated or manual checks identify suspicious activity;
- we have reason to believe the review is fraudulent;
- the content may breach this policy; or
- there are legal or safety concerns.
During an investigation, we may temporarily hide or restrict access to content where reasonably necessary.
We may also request additional information from the reviewer or dealer.
11. Evidence of an Experience
Where the authenticity of a review is reasonably disputed, we may ask the reviewer for information demonstrating that an interaction took place.
This could include information relating to:
- an enquiry;
- correspondence with the dealer;
- an appointment;
- an invoice or receipt;
- a purchase;
- a valuation;
- a part-exchange; or
- another relevant interaction.
Any information supplied for verification will be handled in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
Users should avoid sending unnecessary payment card details, identity documents or other sensitive information unless specifically requested and appropriate.
12. Removing Reviews
We may remove, edit, restrict or refuse to publish content where we reasonably believe it:
- breaches this policy;
- breaches our Terms & Conditions;
- is fraudulent or manipulated;
- infringes another person’s legal rights;
- contains prohibited personal information;
- creates a security risk;
- is unrelated to the dealer or experience being reviewed; or
- must be removed to comply with applicable law.
Where only a limited part of a review breaches this policy, we may ask the user to amend it rather than removing the entire review.
13. Disputes Between Dealers and Reviewers
TICK is not responsible for resolving commercial disputes between dealers and customers.
Where appropriate, we may encourage the parties to communicate directly and attempt to resolve the underlying issue.
We will not determine whether a dealer or customer is legally liable in a commercial dispute.
Our moderation decisions relate to whether content may remain on TICK under this policy and our legal obligations.
14. General Acceptable Use
In addition to the rules applying specifically to reviews, you must not use TICK to:
- commit, encourage or facilitate fraud;
- impersonate another person or business;
- provide deliberately false information;
- advertise counterfeit, stolen or unlawful goods;
- harass, threaten or intimidate others;
- distribute spam;
- send inappropriate unsolicited marketing;
- upload malware or harmful code;
- attempt to gain unauthorised access to accounts or systems;
- interfere with TICK’s security or operation;
- scrape, harvest or systematically extract TICK data without permission;
- misuse personal information obtained through TICK;
- infringe intellectual property rights;
- circumvent restrictions placed on your account; or
- engage in unlawful activity.
15. Enquiries and Messaging
Enquiry functionality must be used for genuine communication relating to dealers, watches or relevant services.
You must not use enquiries to:
- distribute mass marketing;
- send spam;
- harass dealers or users;
- attempt fraud or phishing;
- obtain personal information under false pretences; or
- send unrelated or unlawful material.
We may restrict enquiry functionality where we reasonably believe it is being abused.
16. Dealer Listings
Dealers must ensure their profiles and watch listings comply with our Dealer Terms.
Listings must not knowingly contain false or misleading information.
Counterfeit, stolen or unlawfully obtained watches are prohibited.
Dealers are responsible for ensuring that photographs, descriptions and other content they upload can lawfully be used.
17. Account Enforcement
Where an account breaches this policy, we may take action proportionate to the circumstances.
This may include:
- issuing a warning;
- removing content;
- restricting certain functionality;
- temporarily suspending an account; or
- permanently removing an account from TICK.
Serious fraud, repeated abuse, security threats or unlawful activity may result in immediate action.
18. Attempts to Circumvent Enforcement
Users must not create additional accounts or use another person’s account to circumvent a restriction or suspension.
Doing so may result in further accounts being restricted or removed.
19. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as TICK develops, new functionality is introduced or legal and regulatory requirements change.
The latest version will be published on TICK with the date it was last updated.
20. Contact and Reporting
